Discovering Glenlough Bay, Donegal
Every so often you discover somewhere that makes you wonder how on earth you have never been there before.
For me this week, that place was Glenlough Bay in Donegal.
I had seen photographs, but they really do not prepare you for the scale of the place. The cliffs, the Atlantic stretching out in front of you, the colour of the water and that incredible Donegal landscape all around you. It is absolutely spectacular.
The hike itself added considerably to the experience!
Quite a bit of the route takes you along the cliff edge, with some serious sheer drops beside you. On the way up, the adrenaline was absolutely pumping. I was very aware of just how close to the edge I was and there was definitely a fair bit of nervousness involved. 😂
Strangely enough, on the way back there was no fear whatsoever. I was practically skipping back down the same path I had been so cautious about earlier.
Funny what a little familiarity can do.
And the views were worth every single step.
What I loved most was the wildness of it. There is something about this part of Donegal that still feels wonderfully untouched. No big attractions needed. Just cliffs, mountains, sea, fresh air and scenery that stops you in your tracks.
One of the things I love about being out and about so much is getting to discover incredible places like this along the way.
Glenlough Bay is definitely one for the return list.
Have a watch of the video below. Although even it does not quite capture what it feels like standing there.
Glenlough Bay, Donegal. Absolutely amazing. 💚
