What Type of Wedding Can You Have With Your Budget?

One of the biggest mistakes couples make when planning a wedding is deciding what type of wedding they want before deciding what they can comfortably afford.
I have worked with couples planning weddings for more than twenty years, and one thing I have learned is that every wedding involves compromise. The secret is to compromise on the things that matter least, rather than the things that matter most.
Instead of asking, “How much does a wedding cost?”, I encourage couples to ask a different question.
“What type of wedding can we create with the budget we have?”
For some couples, having all their family and friends together is the priority.
For others, it is the location.
For some, it is amazing food.
For others, it is photography, entertainment or a weekend experience.
There is no right or wrong answer.
£5,000 to £10,000
This budget can create a wonderful intimate wedding, micro wedding or elopement.
With fewer guests, couples often have more freedom to invest in the experience, beautiful scenery and photography.
£10,000 to £20,000
This budget allows for a larger celebration or a traditional wedding with carefully chosen priorities.
Guest numbers and expectations will influence how far the budget stretches.
£20,000 to £40,000
This opens up considerably more options, allowing couples greater flexibility with venues, suppliers and guest numbers.
Above £40,000
Almost anything becomes possible, although priorities and careful planning still matter.
The most memorable weddings are rarely the most expensive.
They are the weddings that feel authentic to the couple.
So before falling down the Pinterest rabbit hole, sit down together and ask yourselves:
Who do we want there?
How do we want the day to feel?
What matters most to us?
Then build your wedding around those answers.
Because a beautiful wedding is not measured by how much you spend.
It is measured by how intentionally you spend it.
